Be aware/think twice about magic jack gifting ....
I gifted a magicjack to someone. I called magic jack by telephone to indicate I was no longer reponsible for the gifted account. Remove my credit card info from the account. I was assured my request would be granted . 2 months later my credit card was billed. Today I entered an online chat.- Live agent - stated I should call the person -tell him not to use my credit card. The person never used my credit card- he does not have my credit card number. he simply hit the renewal button. If the individual(LiVE telphone agent) I talked in july had done the proper followthrough - A request for a new credit card would have been displayed.. I was told that magicjack does not have any system overrides/mechansms to prevent the aforementioned situation from happening in the future. (my credit card info is embedded in the device) I cancelled my credit card. In the future I will pay by the point of sale mastercard/visa cards found on the gift card racks. . (good for the actual transcation). Magicjack will not cancel the person's account knowing it was paid by a fraudulent transaction. This matter will be reported to the business bureau... After 2 years - I like saving money. only one problem was experienced- in August -no advanced warning about possible contact names/numbers loss in their huge systems upgrade/overhaul... That glitch was horrible....

magicJack retains credit card information
Yes. They are notorious for this.
However, in lieu of cancellation, instead report it lost/compromised and get another one re-issued with a new number. (And of course dispute any charges already on there.)
Friend of mine was oversold on a DirecTV package and when they insisted on charging him more that he agreed to he did this.
