Magic Jack Updates

Hi,

I was wondering where the magicjack software updates are stored. Is it on the magicjack itself or are they stored on the local computer.

My magicjack stopped working about a month ago on the computer I have dedicated for it. However, when i plug into my laptop, it works fine. This makes me wonder if the updates are stored on the computer instead of the magicjack.

MJ always keeps the latest update on their web page, usually after it is pushed through to us unannounced.
Maybe yours got corrupted when it was pushed through on your dedicated MJ PC.
So you can d/l it from MJ and manually update it. If that does not work, you can d/l the MJ removal tool at their web page, run it, reboot ( with your MJ dongle plugged in) and it should update itself.

No, nothing is no longer stored on the dongle. Do a search on your PC for the mjusbsp folder. In it you will find another folder called upgrade with 1 or 2 setup files. I never ran them but they have the date of when I ran my update. Still I think you would be better off just downloading the upgrade directly from the MJ site. Better safe than sorry as you want it to run correctly. As I mentioned I never ran those files stored there so I can not say for sure if it will work correctly, especially if you run the MJ removal tool. Then that folder will be gone.

I have my T5720 Thin Client configured so that the software is always downloaded from the magicJack servers whenever there is a powerloss, I reboot, or unplug/plug back in my MJ. No MJ software is saved to the flashdrive. This latest update did not affect my TC at all, rebooted, and was back in business.
On another note, the MJ update did affect my other MJ that I use for my fax/2nd line running on an InfoLogix microcomputer with full version of XP. It failed to see the MJ at all after the update. I DELETED the MJ software, let it download the new release and I'm back in business.

TIP-
On my Thin Client I changed the MJ icon on my desktop from their icon to a red X(in windows\system32\shell32.dll) so that IF the MJ loads/runs properly, it changes from the red X back to their icon.
