Improving call quality

This was posted in a review by jdr. He claims it improved his call quality. I'm using Win7 also and tried it. I can't say it improved my quality as it was great to start with. Mostly I was checking to see if it degraded quality. Didn't hurt anything so I still have the settings suggested:

"Overview: modify two (2) sound settings and one (1) network setting.
The following instructions were developed using Windows 7 OS.
01- Click Start -> Control Panel
02- Select "sound" (you may need to select "hardware & sound" first)
03- Right click the Handset (USB Internet Phone by Tigerjet) and select properties:
....a. Click the "Levels" tab and set volume to 100%
....b. Click the "advanced" tab, click the dropdown menu and select:
......."1 channel, 16 bit, 8000 hz (Telephone Quality)"
....c. Click OK
04- Click the "Communications" Tab
....a. Select (activate) the "Do nothing" radio button
....b. Click OK
05- Click Start -> Control Panel
06- Select Network & Sharing Center (you may need to select "network & internet" first)
07- Select "change adapter settings" (in left column)
08- Right click the "adapter" and select properties
....(you should only have one- likely named Local Area Connection)
09- Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click "Properties" icon
10- Click (activate) the "Use the following DNS Server Addresses" radio button and enter the following:
....a. Preferred: 67.90.152.122
....b. Alternate: 67.107.71.186
11- Click OK
12- Click Close
13- Re-boot

I tried the DNS server address settings. It might have been my imagination, but it really slowed down my system at reboot. I only rebooted once, so subsequent ones might have been fine. But I noticed no change in the connection quality so I reverted back to default. I had the other settings already in place. I found on mine that 100% on the volume control was too much. The voices were too loud and it was amplifying my line noise, so I backed mine down to 75%. I appreciate the suggestions though, always love trying to fine tune this thing.

Wow! I wouldn't give my network DNS duties to magicJack. That's crazy. Use something like OpenDNS that is an industry standard for fast, safe DNS lookups, not magicJack.

I'm clueless either way, obviously. It didn't work for me anyway, so my setting is now "obtain DNS server address automatically", which I assume is safe?

Safer than having MJ DNS yes. Or as Diggs mentioned Opendns. I have been using that for many years without a single problem ( even MJ works just fine). Plus they offer some safeguards. You can read it on the web page Diggs provided.
