MJ hangs up

Post by tomhatz »

For the last 3 weeks my MJ will hang up after 5 minutes. I talked to their support couple of times but the problem persists. It had to be the last update they send or something changed in windows. I thinking to reinstall win xp as a last resort. Can you help?

Anything that requires reinstalling windows is extreme .. I hope that is not the case at all.

Is this happening for all your calls?

Can you try and run the MJ on some other computer?

Also, I am trying to clone MJ so that we can share it with our friends - have a look at : http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/mj-c ... t7693.html

If you think you can help, let me know!

I don't know if there is a problem with my computer, my MJ is defective, there is a problem with the MJ network or my ISP knows how to filter VOIP traffic and disconnect my calls.
I'm surprised that my problem is not happening to many others that is why I'm thinking that it could be my unit or pc.
At this point I'm thinking to reinstall windows because it the only thing I control.
Any ideas??

Can't you try using the MJ on another computer?

If it's not a problem for you to reinstall windows, go ahead.

If you would like to help me on a project I am doing that does not require you to use the dongle/device at all, let me know, but that will take time and trust.

I had a similar problem...the MJ cut out after 5 minutes about 50 per cent of the time (the MJ still thought it was connected). It was always 5 minutes..never 3 4 or 6 7 or 8, The problem was solved when I switched to another computer. I still do not know what the problem was.

Was the other computer where MJ is working on another line/p

Post by jongasse »

basilseal,

YOUR observation seems to go against the crowd wisdom that the server is responsible for these issues.

Was the other computer where MJ is working on another line/place?

I mean are the two computers serviced by two different ISPs/areas?

the other computer was here at my house using the same router and isp. It did not mater if the mj was plugged directly into the computer or plugged into a powered hub. I suspect it was some internal usb connection issue with that computer.

hang up calls

Post by Barbara »

My MJ worked well the first week and then the calls would hang up after exactly 5:12 minutes each time. Did you ever fix the problem?

TO everyone.
Just an update.
I fixed my problem by disconnecting my wireless router and connecting my PC directly into the cable modem,
Apparently my wireless router (a Netgear) could not keep a steady connection when I had encryption on. Now I plugged it back in and hide my SSID to have a little privacy.

Anyone knows of a router with NO connection problems.

I am using Linksys model WRT54G with no problem on My MJ and Nettalk6000.
I had my MJ for almost a year now and Nettalk for 2 months and both are integrated to Google Voice using the wireless router. :D

Thank you for the tip.
Do you find Nettalk6000 better than MJ?

Re: MJ hangs up

It is a configuration parameter from MJ itself. They deliberately terminate the call after 5 minutes. I just had 9 consecutive calls all terminate at exactly 5 minutes. You can watch the MJ window as the call rounds the 5:00 boundary and you will see the software itself saying "Hanging Up". It's nothing to do with your computer.

MagicJack sucks the big one. Can't wait to dump it for something else.

MJ Hangs Up

Post by jimmied »

Check out my recent post re "Dropped Calls"

I was getting dropped calls at 5 minutes, but did the necessary change on DNS server as per MJ instructions and no more dropped calls. Hope it continues.

I'm having the same trouble, at 5 minutes mj will hang up. I've changed the dns numbers and it worked for the first call. Every call after the first, mj hangs up at 5 minutes. Any more options with mj?

I'm new to MJ from Skype. I've hardly even tried it yet. I have 30 days to test it and then return it to Radio Shack if I want. If it's going to drop my calls at five minutes I'll just go back to Skype.

Good thinking. If it doesn't work for you, you should return it. If it works, you should keep it.

Great post.

Sorry, though, Mister Whiz, but you fellers are henceforth going to have to somehow muddle along without me. I returned Magic J to Radio S and my money was cheerfully refunded and I'm back to Skype again.

If your magicJack hangs up, that would mean that you have a problem with some of your software or your computer might be running slow and needs to be updated.

And further more, magicJack technical support does not have a fix on it. They will just run some fixes then tell you to have a reboot and tell you that your magicJack will be fixed after the reboot so that they will be given an "Excellent" on the survey that you will be giving but the fact is that they don't know how to fix it!

God knows we tried. Can't we still be friends? I feel like crying...

OK, seriously then, hopefully they'll get the kinks out so that it works for me all the time as opposed to just some of the time, and then I'll try it again. Why not, if they'll still be offering the money back guarantee? In theory it's much better than Skype, but so far only in theory, at least for me.

OK, au revoir, farewell, bon voyage, arrivaderci, adios, and hasta la vista. So sad. Try to muddle along without me. It won't be easy...

OK, I guess we've milked this gag for all it's worth.
