MJ Major Release (1.x to 2.x) "Lucky You" Update

Post by redpepper »

As you are probably aware, magicJack is currently forcing out a major new release of their magicJack dialer at the moment. A "heads up" announcement for such a major change would have been useful.

Unlike previous minor updates, this is indeed a major release (i.e. magicJack 1.x to magicJack 2.x). The changes to the magicJack dialer and also to the online account management facility at http://my.magicjack.com are significant both internal and external.

MagicFeatures - Update in Progress (Also Xlitejack, Skyjack and MagicSilence)
In regards to MagicFeatures Plugin, an update is already underway to support the major release changes. The same is true for the Skyjack, Xlitejack and MagicSilence Plugins that were all originally developed from scratch. The updates should hopefully be available in the next few days; however they may take longer depending on the number of changes required. Patience will be required and is definitely appreciated.

How do you know if you have the latest version? I have restarted by MagicJack software and it looks exactly the same as I had before.

Trust me when you get it you will see the difference in the softphone. Nothing drastic, but it is more refined..( No Air Card option for one)
I went back to the old version we have now becuase the update did NOT fix the lost contacts problem.

Gotta love it. It seems the update fixed my wife's MJ contact list on her PC. I still haven't gotten the "Lucky you" as of this morning on mine. Waiting...waiting...waiting....

I talked to tech support and they gave me the download link to do it myself because I hadn't gotten the update.

I did that yesterday. I got it from their web page. I wanted to see IF my contacts came back after I did the update. So I made an image of my C: drive first and did the update. NOPE contacts still gone. Worse yet, I tried making a new contact list ( only added 2 names as I am no dope) and when I restarted MJ, IT TOO WAS GONE!!
So I reverted back to my image with the old version of MJ. My thinking is if they have not pushed it to me yet MAYBE the server I am on is not ready for it. So if after a couple of weeks and I still dont get it I guess I will do the manual update again.
So did you install it? Did your contacts come back?

What's strange to me is my wife's PC is on the same server as my PC, and she got the update. I'll go nuts if I try to figure out their logic (or lack of it) as to who gets it now and who gets it later. Both MJ accounts are in my wife's name, so it doesn't look like it's alphabetical.

One of those things that makes you go "Hmmmmm..."

WOW that is odd indeed. No rhyme nor reason there that's for sure...
I am going to hold out and see what happens on it's own.

Let me know if and when your update gets pushed through and if your contacts return..

When they send the link it opens a download option in firefox, so I just downloaded it.

I didn't save the link they sent.

It's easy enough to ask them for it, though

I installed it, but my contacts were actually gone before I did the upgrade (not sure why).
I only had about 8 or so in the contacts list, though.
I have all my numbers in a word document, anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

Take the dot (period) off the end of upgrade.exe and you can download it fine. After applying this upgrade though, still no contact list. :/

I also just upgraded and my contact list is there. But like I mentioned in another thread, the list came back after doing a "restart" with the old softphone first. No rhyme nor reason to this.

More "cons"

You can not drag the main MJ screen all the way dwn to the
tool bar - it will "pop up" abt 3 inch's into your screen .
You hve to right click on the MJ in your tool bar and do a min.

you will knw when you upgrade, the Menu is knw on the left
side.

I don't know why your updated softphone won't drag down so far, as mine can go all the way down, and I can minimize to the tray from the MJ screen. XP SP3.

Joe, I ran that upgrade yesterday, but just now had to restore to a point before the installation. The reason is every time I rebooted my PC, and as long as the dongle was plugged in, the Windows Installer would try to install the upgrade all over again. That installer message box became annoying quickly, since it takes a while to complete. I'm just going to wait for MJ to send it down the pike and then see what happens.

Tom make sure EVERYTHING is closed ( I closed everything but my firewall) when you manually do the install. I did not have the problem you had. In fact after I tried it again last night even though my contact list was gone this time if I added one it stuck on a restart. Since I make an image prior to installing anything I reverted back after I tried it again. I too will wait..

Does anyone know if this problem is related to the operating system used? I have Win XP on the 2 computers that I connect the MJ to and have not (yet) lost my contacts.

Nope XP SP3 here and contacts lost on Friday 8/20. If I update still no conatcts if MJ updates still no contacts, plus if I make a new list upon reboot they are gone too.

I think it is a server issue.... Just the luck of the draw..

I say let's go back to the corded rotary dial phones and keep a flip-up phone number index on the table. Simpler times (comparatively speaking).

Them thar were the days. 300 baud acoustic modems. The first modem I brought home was 1200 baud. That was fast!

Still no upgrade on this end Joe. I'm tingly all over with antici...pation. Although it is nice to be able to use MagicFeatures on my PC.

got update today, only had the three contacts i had readded since loosing them previously, and they were still there post update. but the favorites? option i never used is gone now.

i was wondering, maybe the difference in behavior between mjs has to do with when you bought yers, and what hardware is in it. like perhaps there's slight hardware diffs that have appeared over time. i got mine like over a year ago think mine was kinda early?

on eight twenty i lost my contacts like a bunch of other people. then other people say they had no probs. i would suspect hardware diffs before anything to do with the server.

disclaimer, i have not read all the posts on this forum, so if my theory is horse shit and i would have known this cause i read it somewhere on dis forum, forgive me.

My MagicJack did an automatic update. I turned on my computer this morning, and when loading the progress bar looked a little bit different, and so did the program once it loaded. I was surprised since I wasn't notified or given a link, it just happened on it's own. I lost all my contacts. To get them back, I right clicked on the program, then selected Sign Out. Then I just entered my e-mail address and password I used to register to sign back in. Once it loaded back up, all my contacts were restored.

Thanks for the simple fix! I re-installed the MJ sw, rebooted, etc and nothing worked.

I signed out and back in, and my contacts all came back.

Good stuff.
