What I can see happening is when your phone comes up for renewal, MagicJack will bill you whatever amount you didn't pay for this current year, plus the coming year's fee for 911 service along with your renewal. And if you don't pay those charges with your annual renewal, you'll lose the service and ...

That $10 yearly charge really is theft for porting a number one time.

As far as the 911 charge, they say they are passing them on and not profiting from them. The problem is that you don't know what the charge is. They link you to an amount, but you don't know if it's monthly or yearly or for ...

$12 is still cheaper than an undisclosed amount from MagicJack. And in my instance, I'd simply have the Google number directed to my cell phone number, so I'd still have 911 available on my cell phone.

I've discovered that many cities have a regular 10-digit phone number that you call that goes to ...

It irks me to no end that there's a $10 yearly charge for your own ported phone number that they do absolutely nothing to maintain ... zero maintenance on their end, absolutely no fees or labor incurred by them. Charging for 911 now just adds more insult to this money-grabbing scheme.

I realize ...

We reserve the right to reclaim any telephone number that does not make a call for a consecutive 90 days. In the event we reclaim a phone number and your software license is still active, you may choose another phone number."

This concerns me, since I use my cell phone mostly. The MJ+ phone is ...

I'm using WinXP SP3 and I've never once seen a message telling me I need to reboot the MagicJack. I leave my PC on 24/7 and often don't reboot for weeks at a time, only when a Windows update forces me to eventually reboot or installing other software.

The only difference between my fix editing the ...

For myself, I've not once had to reinsert the dongle since I got the MagicJack in January. I don't move it between computers, it just stays in one place.

I'm assuming when MagicJack does an update, the shortcuts will probably be back. If and when that happens, it takes a minute to do the registry ...

Oh that is a sweet solution, thank you!

I did it a bit differently though, I didn't see the need to install yet another program, even as tiny and inobtrusive as it seems, that I really don't need.

If you're not afraid of your registry, open it up and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft ...

How to stop MagicJack Plus from creating shortcuts?

Everytime I reboot my computer and/or MagicJack restarts, it insists on re-creating shortcuts on my desktop in the Programs start menu. Is there a way to stop it from creating those shortcuts?

I keep my desktop and Programs start menus very organized and it's driving me crazy to keep deleting ...

Well that's not reassuring at all. I can understand the one-time charge to port the number, but I certainly won't agree to paying an additional fee each and every year for my own number when there is absolutely nothing that MagicJack has to do in order to keep it. Once it's ported it's done with and ...

Porting your own number to MJPlus

I just got the MagicJack Plus so I could get rid of our landline and wanted our old phone number ported over. It said there's a $19.95 fee to do that (which seemed high but figured once it's done, that's the end of it). Ported over the number and then came to a screen that said I was being charged ...

I can at least stop the auto startup of the program though, correct? Or is it always dependent on the computer software running even when dialing with the phone?

I asked before completing the registration, and they said I'll be assigned a temp number to use while the porting of my existing number is being processed.

However, that's not what happened. Like missileman said, the registration closed immediately and there never was a temp number issued even ...

Registration and transferring old number

I just received the MagicJack and the setup allows you to immediately choose to transfer your existing number.

My question, if I choose to transfer my number immediately, will MagicJack issue a temp number to use in the meantime or will I have to wait for the transfer to occur before I can start to ...
