Review

I've had my MJ for 1 year now, and besides a few call quality issues, I really haven't had any problems. For the price, I really can't complain. It is unfortunate that others have had issues, I realize how frustrating that can be. Hopefully I will continue to experience good results.

You need to have the dongle plugged in to change the 911 info. It's very simple to add an address on the softphone, even someone without any computer experience can be instructed how to do this.

I have also experienced the periods of silence today. This has never happened before. It happened a few times during a 15 minute call. I use my dongle directly connected to a USB port.

Ooma

That being said, reaching their customer service/tech support is difficult. Should you have a problem that requires their assistance, be prepared for long hold times and disconnects.

Basically, it appears that the main interest of magicJack executives, is to sell as many units as possible, while investing as little as possible back into the quality of service, and when the time comes, they will take the money and run (of course they will run as very rich men).

The major issue with Ooma is tech support. As long as you don't have any issues, I say go for it, however, if you should have a problem, be prepared for verrrrrrrrrrry looooooooong hold times, and multiple disconnects before speaking to someone, if you actually do get to speak to someone. To verify ...

The problem with Ooma is their customer service. If you have an issue and need to reach them, be prepared to hold forever, and/or be disconnected multiple times. I myself enjoy a bargain, but not at the expense of good customer service when a problem arises.

This can also happen when using the "Hold" feature of magicJack. When you take them off hold, you can hear them. but they cannot hear you.

ooma is another option that does not require messing with an ATA, and does not require a PC. The call quality is excellent. All the cost is upfront, but still cheaper than most traditional phone services.

Thin Client Question

I am new to the concept of using a thin client. I am interested in purchasing a thin client to free my laptop of my magicJack. I saw a thin client for sale with the following specs. Will this work "as is" without adding or upgrading anything? I will only use it for my magicJack, and nothing more. It ...
