What are some of the phone models that enable setting the microphone volume via the phone itself?
On my cordless phone, others still can't hear me that well. On a corded phone, I've had better success.

I used the following process successfully:
- restarted WinXP
- manually backed up all 'C:\<user>\AppFiles\mjusb' files
- deleted mJ/YMax registry keys
- unplugged all other USB devices
- restarted WinXP
- plugged mJ into powered USB hub
- ran ...
