Could this problem be caused by not properly closing the dongle (safely remove hardware) before removing it from the USB port?

If so, I am living on borrowed time, since I remove it all the time by simply unplugging it.

I'm not actually sure that the computer is frozen....it's more like the majicJack is frozen.

How do I keep the computer from "hibernating" or "sleeping" since it must be on for the Jack to work?

If it is a restart problem and not a resume from standby or hibernation, my work around thought would be to unplug MJ before the restart and only plug it in when all the drivers are up and running.

Stopping magicJack with a shortcut

Here is a suggested addition to the no dongle instructions:

Rather than going to Task Manager in XPSP3 I created a shortcut on my desktop that does the job.

In the shortcut target area use the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tskill.exe magicjack

and select Minimized in the Run area

For fear of giving away my own "duh" moment, give this a shot--it may work, it may not.

The magicJack integral volume control only affects the "master" volume control. However, magicJack volume is also controlled by the "wave" volume control.

It may be that the "wave" control is set low.

Question, prioir to flipping the red and green did your phone dial pad dial the tones but no dialing just the dial tone?

Here is my best thinking, subject to learning from people more expert than I.

If the polarity is reversed, you should not be able to generate any tones when attempting to ...

Working on two computers--I use magicjack dongle free on my laptop and with the dongle on my desktop. Both work for dialing out. However, only the one that is booted up first seems to ring and take calls.

MagicJack did have a warning earlier not to install XPSP3. I don't know if that issue has been resolved.

You might try removing the MJ software from the hard drive, reformat the MJ device, and then install the old MJ "downgrade". Those instructions are somewhere on the forum.
