pap2 up for months but now wont connect

Im sure a few people smarter than us are working hard on figuring this out, I bought 6 years of service which isnt worth it to me if I have to use a dongle (In which I won't) Im just gonna be patient for a bit. Im wondering if these utilities are giving us false passwords? Maybe they changed the encryption? Just a thought...
I used the "tools" and got my new password, I get registered and inbound calls but cannot make outbound calls.srvctek wrote:Im sure a few people smarter than us are working hard on figuring this out, I bought 6 years of service which isnt worth it to me if I have to use a dongle (In which I won't) Im just gonna be patient for a bit. I am running on asterisk, not a PAP2.
Nope. If that was the case, ATA wouldn't register and you couldn't get inbound calls. Wondering if they didn't do something with the dial plan on their end (and within the client)...srvctek wrote:Im sure a few people smarter than us are working hard on figuring this out, I bought 6 years of service which isnt worth it to me if I have to use a dongle (In which I won't) Im just gonna be patient for a bit. EDIT : UPDATE
spoke too soon , i guess ... now I am registering but fast busy tone
arghhhh

OLD POST BELOW :
i also used the stroth tools 1.6 and got a new pwd and a new user agent string ... so now mine works outgoing ... for incoming i just enabled call fwd to my cell phone thru MJ ... so in essence for me its working in and out ...
all my settings are exactly the same as kumar's except my dialplan is:
(*xx|[3469]11|0|00|<:1555>[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|<:1>xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)
where 555= my area code.
my proxy always had a 01 (my account is only 2 weeks old).
unlocked linksys spa2102-r1 (5.2.5)
maybe mine is working since i am in the 30 day period ?? or that I prepaid credit $5 for international longdistance (and they think I am potential income in the long run that way??)
just my 2 cents ... hth!

I doubt this has anything to do with age of the account. It would be silly for them to administer more than one user store based on when someone signed up... Now, I could see them doing it on a regional (area codes, geographic), but that doesn't seem to hold water either with the spottiness of the people who are still working.dandruff wrote:i also used the stroth tools 1.6 and got a new pwd and a new user agent string ... so now mine works outgoing ... for incoming i just enabled call fwd to my cell phone thru MJ ... so in essence for me its working in and out ...

The new DNS entries lead me to believe they might be prepping for or rolling an upgrade to their infrastructure. Perhaps the ATA's that are still functioning are on old servers??
Has anyone checked to see if they're doing DNS round robin?
Are you just getting a fast busy when trying to place a call?

You make a good point j1sjeep. I am trying to connect to proxy01.chicago.talk4free.com:5070, but no go on my RTP300. If I remember right, I used to connect to proxy.chicago.talk4free.com:5070 before the update.
I will also be trying to pull some wireshark info from both my router and the magicjack to compare and see the differences.

@UncleRunkle, what happens if you try proxy2.chicago.talk4free.com?UncleRunkle wrote:You make a good point j1sjeep. I am trying to connect to proxy01.chicago.talk4free.com:5070, but no go on my RTP300. If I remember right, I used to connect to proxy.chicago.talk4free.com:5070 before the update.

Did it resolve to the same address? Also, I think my pw reset 2 months ago, I did not change DNS at that time.marinemaster wrote:About 2 months ago I got home and MJ was down. I pulled the credentials and the proxy changed to proxy01. Again this was 2 months ago. It worked then, it does not work now.

Put that for the proxy in my RTP300, and looked at wireshark and got no replies. I am assuming that proxy2.chicago.talk4free.com (216.234.69.9) is not alive.j1sjeep wrote:@UncleRunkle, what happens if you try proxy2.chicago.talk4free.com?UncleRunkle wrote:You make a good point j1sjeep. Pinging proxy02.chicago.talk4free.com [216.234.69.9] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

BTW, proxy01 and proxy02 are interchangeable with proxy1 and proxy2.
all is working here
I have 2 MJ running on a PAP2 ATA. One was activated end of April or beginning of May and one was activated end of May beginning of June. I did not do any updates. Both are dialing in and out. I'm on the Chicago proxy and I used this to set up my ATA (http://rapidshare.com/files/208210096/PAP2TMJ.config) which is what I found on this forum. I have had my ATA activated only for like 2 weeks. Hope this helps.

I used wireshark for the first time the other day to see if anything made sense when the MJ was trying to register. From my novice eyes, I did notice that when it tries to register, it makes 2 attempts. The first time gives you a 400 error not authorized however the second attempt connects. I also seem to remember getting the same result when making a call. The first attempt gives an unauthorized message followed by a second attempt and it connects successfully. Leads me to believe that the MJ is now programmed to make 2 attempts. The server is rejecting the first one by code but the second one is already on the way is is accepted. This would explain why setting your reg time to 0 would allow you to register (at least in my mind) It would also explain why you get the fast busy sound when you make a call. The ata tries to call, MJ responds unauthorized, the ATA then busy signals you without retrying. Again everything I posted above is simply speculation and going by what I read on my first wireshark capture. Comments?

My ATA also died two days ago. Tried all the suggestions in the posts but non work. I have never sniffed the traffic from the magic jack before because I never needed to, but has anybody seen User-Agent: ENSR2.5.47.0-IS28-RMRG0-RG900-EP1395802 before? there is only 1 sip packet that contains this after the registration, it is in the status 200 packet after the last register request. Also, has anybody seen the Realm of stratus.com before and was the nonce value always in sip requests before? I sure wish I would have sniffed traffic before so i could compare.

Makes sense.
Then, enter the IVR again, and assign static IP settings to the PAP2T through the following series of IVR commands:
1) 101#0# 1 - Selects static IP settings (disables DHCP)
2) 111#192*168*1*100# 1 - Replace the given IP with whatever IP
address will be consistent with your
LANs addressing, and not conflict with any
other device's IP.
3) 121#255*255*255*0# 1
4) 131#192*168*1*1# 1 - Replace this IP with your router's LAN
side IP address.
I noticed that user-agent too, but I am pretty sure that is their user-agent that is sending the packet. Look at the source and destination of the packet. That user-agent only shows up when I got a packet coming from 67.90.152.70 (I show 3 status 200 packets and it's in every one of those.). When I sent the packet to 67.90.152.70 the user agent was always MagicJack/1.80.484a (SJ Labs).dallasib1485 wrote:My ATA also died two days ago. Tried all the suggestions in the posts but non work. I can't comment on the realm and nonce value, but I am pretty sure that's normal authentication stuff.
I notice that my MJ USB thing sent 4 request packets. The first was denied. It then sent another request and then it registered. After it was registered it sent two more requests.

I have never looked at the packets before this either so I don't have anything to compare it to. Hope someone smarter than me figures this out.
This is what I chatted about with a represantative at mj today:
Jillian: Hello, how may I help you?
Kris: Hello, I saw the adds and was wondering if I can also use the magicjack with my existing voip-adapter without having to have my pc running?
Jillian: No Kris. MagicJack will only work if you have a computer on with Internet connection.
Kris: So, is it planned in the future? I read some articles about a byod sometime in this year?
Jillian: Yes, they are still working on it, but no exact time frame.
Kris: And pricing would be the same, or will there be a fee added for that use? I heard about a poor static quality of voice with the actual usb-dongle...
Kris: Or is that more a question of the system that mj is running on?
Jillian: Yes, the voice quality depends on the internet connection you have.
Jillian: The price of the magicJack for the first year of service is $39.95 and that includes the device and whole year service to free call US and Canada, and the price of the next year's extension is $19.95 thereof.
Kris: Well ok. Thanks.. If you can do anything to accelarate the process of mj on any voip-adapter, that would be awesome. I would definitly go for several accounts. But that dongle alone? Not so much...
Kris: I am sure, that a lot of people would use it on iphones, ipods or any device. That would triple your sales...
Jillian: I understands that, Kris. Our engineers are still working on some of the updates and upgrades on our system to offer more feature in the near future.
Kris: Anyways, thanks a lot for your information. I will still wait a bit until i purchase some devices. Greets.
Jillian: Okay, thanks too.
What does that tell? Actually nothing! I would willingly pay something like an "unlock-fee" to have it work with any ata or voip adapter.
Mayby we should make something like a petition and inform Dan about how many people would go for his service once it is opened up for any device. I am sure the number of people signing this would be huge. Not speaking of those who didn't buy mj yet, cause it is banned to that freaking dongle...

observation
i have 3 magic jacks with numbers: *******514,*******513,*******507
i noticed that *******507 was blocked which was working on pap2 but the other 2, its sip info are the same where i did not use this 2 on pap2.
notice that all the 3 MJ were registered in the same day, so i guess there is scan on the accounts or something which make them know the account which is working on ata. just writing my observation , may be it helps

IDEA!!
It seems that those MJ that were on an ATA around the time of the "update" no longer work on an ATA, but those that were not hooked up thru an ATA are still working on an ATA. Like mine was not plugged in during the time of the update and both still work on an ATA and didn't require any "updates". Could they have somehow pinged us to see which ones were on an ATA (during the update?) and shut those out? Something to think about.
my observation
linksys spa3102 not working anymore. when i plugged mj into usb, it upgraded to new version. after the upgrade it asked me to re-register (asked for email and password) methinks that's the time i should have run stroths mj utils or wireshark to reveal the real password???? how about downgrading mj and upgrading again to see if this is the crucial time something big is changed??? calling all experts i am a newbie
Re: IDEA!!
Nah, I just bought one and it was never on ATA and took update and did the same thing. Can't register properly with MJ. So thats not it either but keep trying, I am hoping somebody figures this out.fmflex wrote:It seems that those MJ that were on an ATA around the time of the "update" no longer work on an ATA, but those that were not hooked up thru an ATA are still working on an ATA. I have a virgin. I haven't had time to plug it in to watch the process. Trying to figure out the update process. BOO
MEDIC!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm down. They finally got me. LOL That's ok seems like we'll have this shit up and running by Monday. Funny how the morons at MJ have to spend lots of money and energy to lock us out and for what. A week? They'd be better off to just to let it go and charge us for it then at least we'd go peacefully. With this bs all they are doing is pissing people off and they'll either leave or fight back. And figuring out workarounds doesn't cost us anything other then some time, while they will have to continue to spend money to figure out ways to play this cat and mouse game. MJ is fighting an uphill battle. They either need to change their business plan or they'll be gone by this time next year. Watch.

Re: BOO
I agree, I think it is very foolish for Dan to piss off his biggest fans. He should just charge us a few more bucks and allow us to use our ata's instead of his crappy dongle. If we cant get this working I will leave magic jack and will never be back, I will also take all my family that uses them along with me and will never recommend another magic jack to anyone.fmflex wrote:MEDIC!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes and No
Phone Power offers a 2 line service for 2 years for $200. Now if you compare that to MJ. 2 Doogles $90 + 2 second year renewals $40 + Electricity cost for running your computer 24/7 $5/month (on the low end, could be as high as 10 depending on where you live, mine is 8 ) 120 = TOTAL cost for 2 years for MJ is $ 250. $50 dollars more for MJ. Not mention shit quality, computer ware and tare, and being tied down to your pc. Ok so you are saying well you have to put up 200 all at once as supposed to over time. Ok. Then take their 2 year contract price of 15/month. That's 360 for 2 years. MJ we figured was 250. That's 110 less for MJ. Or 4.58 per month in difference over the 2 years. Forget the computer ware and tare or higher electricity costs depending on where you live, or even the quality of service. I'll pay 4.58 more per month on principle alone. Oh and you can port your number for free. Without the ATA Dan is left sitting alone in the dark wondering what just happened.
ooma
almost 200$ nice device no computer needed
perfect quality
at least free for 3 years
unlimitted calls to US (really 3000min per month) but mj kills if you use anything close to 2000min per month so ooma still better
the only thing that MJ has better is calls to canada which is really not that needed for 90% of users specially with their quality of calls.
in our life we always pay for convenience and quality specially living in america. MJ is a toy compared to other voips.

best for pap2 if we cant make mj work on pap2
hi guys
check this site: http://www.smartvoip.com/en/
for 10 euros, you get free calls to many countries including usa and canada for 120 days (300 min per week) without loosing your credit , after 120 days, you pay 1 cent per min which is enough for 1 or 2 more months tota period is about 6 month so the whole year will be for 20 euros. thats the best solution i can find now.
also you are invited to join my facebook group where i offer free sip calls on my server where yu can use it on pap2 or mobile or pc.

There are plenty of other sip providers out there that can compete with magic jack. some will be a bit more expensive, but like i said before most of us would be willing to pay a little more to be able to use our ata's. That usb dongle always has problems, sound quality sucks using that thing plus you always have to have a computer on to use it. So if i have to pay more with another sip provider to get a quality service, i will.snowman53 wrote:And go where? I have not found any service that can remotely match the value of MJ.
I too have been blocked from using my software phone solution & am not happy about it. But even if I have to use the dongle, it's a great value.
Use gizmo5 with an ATA
Hi Folks:
Has anyone tried Gizmo5 phone with an ATA?. I have been using with Innomedia MTA6328 and PAP2. The sound quality looks reasonable. This requires no computer. You can hook to the router. Free incoming calls and Outgoing calls 1.9 cents/minute. You can connect regular telephone. Any comments ?
