Got the suggested flash on the way. When I replace the flash, will I have to follow the steps in this thread again? Or can I backup and restore from my current flash?

Also, concerning RAM: would this item work for the 5700?

You should upgrade both the RAM and the C: FLASH drive to 512 MB. Both are inexpensive and directions are in the sticky of this forum.
I'm not finding a 512 FLASH on ebay, but can get the 512 RAM. Will upgrading the RAM only for now do the trick, or is it mandatory that the FLASH be upgraded as ...

Another response from MJ support :

Hi Stewart,

Some people are experiencing this beeping issue. Please download and run this Patch with your magicJack plugged it. It should eliminate most of the beeping sounds:

Yes, you could disable EWF entirely, but I recommend against it. A great feature of the thin client is that if it gets hosed, or a virus gets on it, you can just reboot and it all goes away. You go back to your last saved good configuration. Running virus protection on the thin client takes up ...

That is VERY possible, but I dont have a clue as to how to fix that. The upgrade is saved to the Magic Jack, though, so shouldnt be affected by that quirk of the TC....unless I have missed something...???
After an upgrade (you can use MagicFix to make sure you're up to date) go to the EWF ...

MJ stopped working on Thin Client/ 401 error /Virtual Memory

Ok, a little history first. Got my MJ running on a TC5700 1GHZ/256F/256R. A couple days ago, it got to where incoming calls went straight to voicemail and we couldn't dial out. So I remote into the TC, look at the magicjack screen and I believe it had a 401 error, saying to restart the MJ. After ...

Re: phone or pc?

Are you guys using phones with this setup or just the pc?
Phones for me, and I suspect most people using thin clients are using them to hook up phones. Once the thin client is set up correctly, you can remove the monitor, keyboard and mouse - leaving just your magicjack plugged up and the phone ...

Instead of TeamViewer, I installed VNC because I am more familiar with it. Just a note to people installing these remote consoles, install the server portion on the TC and the viewer on other PC's.

Why do you put the Server on the TC?
That's just the terminology for the node that "serves up ...

Wow, great instructions. This should be a sticky.
I tackled the Thin Client install this past weekend using these instructions. Nothing ever goes perfect, but it's up and running now and I'm happy.

I didn't upgrade the memory even though my TC is 1GHZ/256F/256R - it is dedicated to MJ so I didn't ...

I would initially look at any upgrades or applications that you've installed lately. Could be the USB drivers, unlikely if it was working before.

Question: you said you removed the MJ from the hub and attached it directly to the PC - did you attach the MJ to the same USB port that the hub was ...

Device priority at router

On my router, a LinkSys WRT54GS, the admin app under "Applications & Gaming" -> "QoS" I am able to set device priority by MAC address. If I set the machine running the MJ to "High" or "Highest", would that be helpful? No real problems right now except for the random call with poor voice quality, but ...

Depending on your PC's settings, it may not auto run. Plug in your MagicJack, wait about 5 minutes. If nothing has happened by that time, open "My Computer" and look for new drives, they'll have a phone as an icon. One of these you'll need to double click - I believe it will be the first one ...

You guys might also want to try a QoS appliance (or router settings). It prioritizes VoIP traffic going out to the internet. I don't know if it will solve all of your problems, but it can't hurt.

I bought the appliance, here it is on Amazon although I found it cheaper on eBay. LinkSys makes a ...

As long as you have a good signal, you should be ok. Wireless networks from 802.11b on up are all fast enough to handle it as long as your connection is good. In other words, you probably want to be close to the WAP (base).

You may have to contend with other traffic on the network though ...

Is it difficult to upgrade the flash and RAM? Or is it like a PC or laptop where you just snap it in?

Do you have a link to the flash and RAM modules you used? I would think 256/256 would work if it's MJ only, but I'd like the flexibility to tinker with other applications if I want.

Also, after I ...

Good deal on a T5700

I just got a HP T5700 T5000 Thin Client 1GHZ/256F/256R XPE for $50 + 18s/h on ebay. From looking around, it seemed like a good deal. At the time of this posting the seller had 7 left, Here's the link if anyone is interested.

It'll probably take a while to ship, but when it gets in I'm sure I'll be ...

I'm going to bump this up, because this is odd. The issue is local numbers, only 205-655-xxxx and 205-661-xxxx. Any call to or from these exchanges has a voice delay. You speak, the person on the other end doesn't hear it for about a second. Sometimes cannot hear it at all. These are CenturyTel ...

I've got a similar issue - same as the OP but only when answering a call waiting call. When someone "beeps in" I flash over and cannot hear anything. I find out later the caller can hear me, but I cannot hear them.

Issues calling CenturyTel numbers?

My wife (who is on the phone a lot btw) has noticed that voice quality varies with locality. Long distance has good voice quality, but "local" calls have static or break up. I think I've narrowed it to just the local telco, which is CenturyTel.

We live in a small town outside Birmingham, Alabama ...
