I do this on a regular basis... BUT, you will need a modem. Plug the MJ into one USB port and the modem into the other and run a phone cord from one to the other. Works without problems for me.

Try plugging the MJ into a real live computer instead of a think client and running it there.

Just for troubleshooting purposes, try disabling both netbarrier and the OS X firewall. If you still have no luck, try plugging straight into your cable/dsl modem and bypassing your router. I'm guessing there's a setting on your router that's blocking the connection.

Callers get fast busy or network unavailable after I use dnd

OK, here's what happens... for the last 2 days, people have complained that when they try to call me they get a fast busy (if calling from a land line) or a network unavailable message (if calling from a cell phone).

Went round and round with tech chat. I "believe" what fixed it was disconnecting ...

I've been having problems for the last 2 days with incoming calls. Outgoing calls seem fine My girlfriend's son has a MJ I bought for him because he gets 0 cell coverage at his place. He can get incoming calls, but outgoing is a problem. It's becoming evident that this is definitely not a problem on ...

For what it's worth, I've seen a few systems recently that have PS/2 connectors for keyboard and mouse, but checking out the system reveals that they are NOT actually connecting as PS/2 devices. Seems there's a PS/2 to USB adapter built into the motherboard (for lack of a better way of putting it ...

As you've already been told, same area code does not equal local call. That's not up to MagicJack.

It may be that all calls within certain area codes are local to each other, but that depends largely on how large (geographically) an area code is. Conversely, not all calls from one area code to ...

Thought this was corrected by an update a while back. I've only had mine for about a month, but I'm routinely on conference calls that last up to 2 hours and don't have any problems with the calls disconnecting.

Quite possibly. If you're certain your system is malware free. It wouldn't be the first time a flash drive decided to go bad.

I'll bet money that the problem is the combination of the USB wireless adapter and the MagicJack is putting too much of a power drain on the USB bus.

Try getting a powered USB hub.

Methinks you might want to double check that your antivirus software is up to date and maybe scan the magicjack on a pc you know is clean and up to date.

Aside from the possibility of infection damaging the magicjack, has anything changed recently? Is the mj being properly ejected prior to ...

You're kidding, right? Windows XP was released more than 8 years ago. It may be very easy to make it run on Windows 2000, but opening that can of worms creates a support nightmare. They have enough issues dealing with support as it is.

I don't have hard numbers to dispute the 50% figure you state ...

Um... I'm a little confused as to why you would want to do this. Why not just take the MJ with you wherever you go? As long as you have a broadband connection, you can plug in. Why would you want to forward them?

I know people who've had lots of problems and issues with prepaid cards. They don't work quite the same way as the real thing. Online merchants often can't take them at all because there's not way to verify a billing address with some of them. Also, authorizations work differently with some of them ...

Basically, it's putting such a heavy load o the line that there's not enough juice to make the other one ring.

Did that make sense?

I'm not an expert, but my father worked for Bell for many years. I remember when every phone came labeled with a "ring equivalence". Typically, there was an optional ...

Do you have it plugged into a hub now? (powered or unpowered) or directly into a USB port?

Have you tried using a different USB port?

There may be another device on the USB Bus that it's on that's drawing so much power it momentarily kills it.

More info would be really helpful trying to ...

Nope

Just got my magic jack and noticed the same thing on my iMac and when using it on my MacBook. Since mine is strictly a business line, it doesn't bother me at the moment as I'm pretty much always sitting in front of the machine.

I may decide to replace my normal home phone with one of these, but if ...
