The task kill method Joe mentioned (Thanks again Joe) is a huge time saver since the last 'Lucky You" swamped the dongle disconnect process.

How close is your phones base station to your computer? Just curious because radio interference from computers does mess with cordless phone systems. I am using a 5.8GHz vTech and noticed big improvements after I switched to a longer cord and moved the phone further away.

Sounds like you may need more tweaking of your Windows Firewall settings and/or Router settings.

I am not sure which router you use. You might try to "Search" this forum with your router brand listed as the query and see if something specific comes up.

From what I have gathered from MJ's site, Linux is currently not a supported OS. If you look in the FAQ's on www.magicjack.com there is mention that Linux will be supported soon (1st Qtr 2010). Whether or not this will actually happen remains to be seen.

Works great with my Vtech (mi6889) 5.8GHz with answering machine and 4 handsets. Caller ID displays incoming (number only) unless caller is pre-stored in the Vtech's directory which is shared by all 4 handsets.

I have used XP SP3 since it rolled out. Prior to this last "upgrade", I had no issues in safely dismounting my MJ either. This upgrade was indeed a surprise.

freesytlegreek, SP3 is worth the time to install with all the Microsoft fixes it addresses but may not help much with our dismounting USB ...

As a temp fix until MJ can get onboard with this issue, a possible method of saving some considerable time with the whole mount/dismount of MJ's USB dongle (at least in XP), is to go into MJ's softphone and use the "Restart" feature located under Menu, Advanced Users, Restart.
