If it were possible to obtain a Grand Central number: How does that work? One forum mentioned that calls made to this number are forwarded to the pending area location of the MJ owner.

You cannot have an MJ number in a pending area code period! GC will forward to the existing number that you set ...

Active and pending area codes have nothing at all to do with making calls.

MJ can't assign a number to a pending MJ area code. You couldn't possibly make a call from one because you can't have an MJ assigned number in one.

100k refers to the use of a resistor to improve some aspects of your calls on MJ. Do a search of the forums for the word resistor. Several ways to install one are listed. I've been using one for about four months now.

Check (search) the forums and you will find a couple people who are doing it successfully. This, however, doesn't mean it will be that way for you. Just plug your fax machine into the MJ and give it a try.

Yup, that's how it works! One clarification though, you can call her for free from your land line if her number is local to you or your land line service has free long distance, not because she has an MJ. That goes for anyone else calling her too.:lol:

I've have also been pleased with my MJ. I have a Belkin Pre-N router and didn't have any ports open when I got my MJ. It worked fine, but I have opened ports for ViaTalk since then. If MJ would have had number porting available, I may have skipped ViaTalk, but probably not because of MJ's limited ...

Once your MJ is set up with a US phone number, you only need an MJ with you to call back home and get calls from home if you are going overseas. A second MJ at home isn't needed if the MJ you take with you has a local phone number. Calls both ways will be free.

Understand that MJ is not the $40.00 device that will save the world, but it has worked very well for me, much better than voip.com that cost five times as much. It is still a little rough around the edges (support, etc.), but so was I at that age. :P

I am giving my MJ a well-deserved vacation in Italy compliments of my daughter-in-law. Has anyone taken one to Europe and made calls back to the USA? Shouldn't be any problem since it is all over the WWW, but how about some input from someone who has actually done it.

While you can use any computer, consider the cost. If you keep the MJ available at all times, it can add up. I can tell you that my laptop costs less than $1.50 per month to run 24/7. But my desktop costs over $27.00 per month to run 24/7.

The pop-ups are small and not a big problem. In fact, yesterday I found out about the brief outage from the message from Dan that popped up. Very helpful.

A little advertising in the pop-ups is fine, after all, someone has to pay the bills, and for what we are paying for MJ, we can't complain.
