Most Internet providers allow more bandwidth in the Download direction than upload, In this case the incoming voice sounds good but outgoing voice will chop or be broken.

Possible solutions are,


Increase Internet bandwidth if possible.

Use QoS firmware on router known as tomato.

Set MJ+ to 3G ...

MagicJack hate them or love them them is based on that same patented voice circuit that VocalTec started with in 1994.

The hardware linage is as follows VocalTec USB Internet Phone,TigerJet USB then MagicJack USB devices.

I can't guarantee it will work for you but, when I tested it 911 worked fine they even roll a patrol car past the home.

Just get a 4 port Linksys router, the word switch scares me since most are half duplex and full duplex is what you need for good VoIP phone calls.

I would plug directly into the WB or into the wireless router I have or can have connected to it?

No the original MJ needs a computer operating system like Windows XP or above or OSX on the Apple platform.


The MagicJack PLUS will function with a direct Ethernet connection after you register it ...

I would not recommend it to anybody as replacement for regular phone service, but at one time I did used Hugesnet sat service and a Vocaltech USB phone to save on long distance.

It is more like using a walkie talkie than a phone, Thats if it works at all, the rules may have changed but at one time ...

I found out that the time on the MJ+ comes from a server in Palm Beach County Florida, That puts it in the eastern time zone.

Still waiting on a big update for the MJ+.

MagicJack is a voice over Internet protocol device or VoIP for short.

You must connect it to a router or Internet connected computer via the USB port to make phone calls.

Since it's on a YMAX / MagicJack server reporting it in the type chat help support is the best bet to get the trouble report to the correct tech and him/her fixing ...

Already two threads on the same thing,the problem is not on your end. it is likely a bad call connecting server causing the no ring, somebody erased a .wav file or it became corrupted.

I have a low priced unpowered GE wall phone that has battery powered caller ID display, This phone performs well with MJ and MJ+.

With a backup power source (UPS) on my MJ+, Cable modem and router this phone has proven itself to work reliably long after the power goes out.

You most likely did the right thing by contacting support. If your report makes it to the correct tech your problem may get fixed in a few days.

Sounds like a setup issue with a call connecting server.

Mine works just fine, When I hear the phrase chop,garble or disconnect it is almost always the Internet Service Providers fault or no QoS on the router causing the problem.

Bad Internet Service will suck all the joy out of VoIP phone calls.

The version #2.0.6073.4252 of this upgrade has been the same since Oct 2 2011, they are working on a major update for the MJ PLUS unit, this isn't it.

Yes turn on push notifications for the MagicJack app and check my magicjack.com for the settings on your devices.

IOS 5 upgrade makes it easy to activate push notifications on just the MagicJack app.

It really works good at my location on Wi-Fi. :D

I have good service from both my MJ/MJ+ devices, the MJ+ works as good as Vonage except for no voice mail indicator.

Me and the wife also have a cell phone as backup, no land line since 2006.

I would start checking all phone wire connections,try connecting that one phone directly to the MJ also try this with a new or different phone.

In another thread low volume was fixed with a new Panasonic phone, I personally have had good luck with V-tech phones.

If all else fails exchange your MJ ...

If your MJ+ works connected to the USB port of your computer and not the Ethernet connection 99.9% of the time it is blocked settings in the router, the other .1% of the time it's due to equipment problems like cables,connectors or a bad MJ+ device.

Faxing is really hit or miss with MagicJack

My brother fax machine won't work at all with the MJ+ but my HP all in one deskjet printer does an OK job for faxing.

MJ is a multimedia device and works better with certain phones and modems better than others.

A word on faxing,setting the MJ+ to normal (not 3g aircard) in the softpad before moving the PLUS to stand alone mode helps with faxing.

True broadband Internet like Charter cable helps with faxing.

The modem in the Fax machine makes a big difference as well, with MJ+ service it works OK on my HP ...

Every one needs to be aware if you put your MJ phone number into the Apple MagicJack app (registration) it will be permanently linked to that Iphone/Itouch device.

It cannot be removed. it cannot be changed !! :cry:

This is a fix listed for D-link routers and the MJ+

All MagicJack devices use the same ports this will give you clues to fixing your MJ.

Normally people can't get incoming phone calls and can make out going calls ...

Something in your computers firewall or setting in your router is blocking ports that your MJ needs to communicate.

Your in the right place to find an answer to your issue.

Search is your friend.

Are you using 10 digit dialing? XXX-XXX-XXXX even for a local call.

For more than a year now they have correctly calculated the correct expiration date when adding years to the MJ or MJ+

MJ got put on notice by the BBB for tampering with the expiration date.

It should work but once you assign an Iphone to a MJ number it's permanent , It can not be changed !

You have to get it right the first time you run the MagicJack app on your phones or it always turns into a mess.

You can use an Ipod touch with the MJ app. on wi-fi.

To clear the error you have, connect the ear buds microphone combo and restart the app.

You must OK push notifications for the MagicJack app to get incoming phone calls.
