Re: Why do I need to keep MagicJack computer on 24/7?
. Also search this site and you will find a script called Kill (process) in this case MagicJack which effectively turns MJ off and will allow your computer to sleep, hibernate or just generally goof-off - whatever.....

Has anybody else been having the same issues on the west coast (USA)? Can only use MJ to make outgoing calls?

It's MJ's fault
Many times the error message that one gets from a phone company does not reflect the actual problem. When the voicemail on MagicJack is down, which it frequently is, the call from the Verizon cellphone gets the "cannot be completed as dialed".. Then call the same MJ number from a different service ...

IIRC, (I threw out the instructions when I passed the 30 day trial), a POWERED hub is a requirement if the computer's USB port (preferred) is not used.

Yes. Eventually, ads are supposed to appear in that pane.QuiGonJohn wrote:..... The part about advertisements, what does this mean exactly?
Is it referring to the window on the left hand side of the MJ Interface, which does seem to change periodically.

Re: Does MagicJack offer "message waiting"?
On my old VOIP service when I had a voicemail message a little light would flash on my phone and when I picked up the phone I would get a stuttering dialtone - I think that is call "message waiting".... how can I get that with MJ?

10 Reasons 2 Keep MJ Even With Its Problems
Even if MJ isn't reliable enough as a primary line, here are my 10 reasons that MJ is a keeper:
1. Unlimited calls to U.S. and Canada; don't need a LD plan on my main phone.
2. Good, cheap secondary line.
3. Good backup for primary line.
4. Good number to give to those that you don't want to have ...

Re: It cost me WHAT!?
Keeping my laptop running costs me less than $0.05 per day (under $1.50 per month) with only MJ running. .
At 14 cents per KWH, that's about right if your laptop is only drawing 15 watts. I've seen estimates that laptops draw between 15 and 45 watts. Triple the cost if your laptop is at the high ...

That's why users should not depend on MJ as their primary line. But with the rates, it makes a great second line and backup for other VoIPs.sligg wrote:I've had MJ since July and there has never been a month without problems..

Unplugging MJ device while up and running
Is there any harm in unplugging the MJ device while the computer is on and MJ is running? I would like to be able to put the computer in the sleep (standby) mode when not using it (and not worried about having the MJ phone operational).
